Daily care for excellent eye health

The best daily eye care tips for optimum eye health. Here’s a run-down of our go-to daily eye care tips for better ocular health in the blink of an eye!

  1. Catch up on sleep

Eye strain can often be exasperated by poor quality or lack of sleep. Getting a good night’s sleep improves overall eye health and reduces eye strain. Resting your eyes not only rejuvenates them but spending time with your eyelids closed reduces dry eyes.

2. Reduce screen time

Screen time can have negative short term and long-term effects on your eye health. Screen time causes us to blink less and spend long periods of time focusing without breaks this causes eye dryness, eye strain, and eye fatigue and so excessive screen time or consistent screen time over a long period has incredibly negative effects on eye health.

Many of us work on computer screens so avoiding screen time is impossible. To keep your eyes healthy when working at a computer or when using your mobile phone or tablet device, you should set a timer to have regular screen breaks to reduce eye fatigue and strain. Using daily preservative free artificial tears will help to combat dry eyes.

3. Eat your greens

They say you are what you eat, and this is, in part, true! There are plenty of foods that are good for our eyes and ocular health particularly green leafy vegetables and, there is truth in the old saying ‘carrots can make you see in the dark’ as carrots do have a positive impact on our vision as do other vegetables rich in vitamin A. Vitamin A plays a pivotal role in good eye health, protecting the cornea (outer layer of the  eye) and the blood vessels within your eye.

4. Stay hydrated

Hydration is crucial to overall health.  Three ways to stay hydrated for optimum eye health is to drink plenty of water each day, use daily eye drops, and keeping a humidifier in the home. Low humidity in the air can cause itchy and dry eyes to worsen.

5. Wear your sunnies

Protective eyewear is paramount in sunny weather. Sunglasses protect your eyes from harmful UV rays from direct sunlight and against Hay Fever by blocking pollen spores from getting into your eyes.

6. Book regular eye appointments

Finally, you should always maintain regular eye appointments and examinations to support your daily eye car routine. Whether you have eye health concerns or not, it is always best to keep your routine eye appointments.
